A mini primer for the new blogger

Create blog

Creating and maintaining a blog can be difficult. It can be especially hard if you want to get your name out there. The fact of the matter is that one more blog is just a drop in the bucket when you look at the ocean of bloggers out there competing for the same space as you are. That doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try however. Here are some tips to get you started.

First off, you’ve got to create a blog. There are various free websites out there that will give you some basic web authoring tools and host your site without ever asking for a dollar. Next, you’ll want to toy with your blog template until you get a look that is pleasing for both you and your prospective readers to look at when they come to read your blog content.

Perhaps the biggest challenge when learning how to blog is writing regular content and submitting it to a blogging community where you can hopefully get some followers. Blog listing sites are great because they allow you to submit blog articles from your site and put them in a place where they can easily be found by web surfers. You shouldn’t rely solely on these websites however.

When writing your blog you need to consider what people are looking for and how they’re looking for it in web searches. Using blog keywords, catchy titles, and keeping your writing fresh are all great, tried and true methods of gaining an audience. Using a combination of popularly used keywords, as well as using social networks to submit blog articles to your friends and family, are both effective ways to get your content out there.

Many bloggers can and will make money from their blogs. However, I try to live by one rule on my blog; I’m not doing this for the money. If you are able to adapt this mantra into your own blog site then I think you’ll find your posts will retain their quality even when you aren’t seeing a single cent from it.

Using these methods you can share your blog with the world and hopefully gain an audience that interact with you. Good luck out there!

  1. I approached this more like an “Idiot’s Guide to Blogging”. Sure, it’s very general but if you have no idea where to start it’s not bad by any measure.
